It takes two to tango

No matter the time or the place there is one couple that you can't separate - want to take a guess ? Nope ..  you won't find the answer in the picture this time, even if pictures paints a thousand words! .. and this is an awfully nice picture ... it could very well be the climax of a lesfic story line as in ... no I'm not the writer - I'm the reader! And that's who they are, the couple .. not the dancers silly ! The couple that you can't separate, the couple who need each other like ... well whatever You Need.

... the reader and the writer .. it's a bliss when you find each other. You can be her first, she can be your latest and you can be each others ... whatever you are it might be for life.

You can bookmark her, put her among your favourites or on a shelf - she won't mind. She will think of you while she puts her words on paper and ponders the story line, but you don't have to brush your teeth before you take her to bed.

It's a match made in heaven, but it's not free. You'll have to commit your reading time as she will have to commit herself to slaving over the keyboard. She will wonder if you read her lines, as you will wonder the meaning of her words.

You are together yet separate, your lives merely touching, but still she can linger in your head for days like the tune of a favourite song that you hum to yourself over and over again.

What you do to her is your choice, but if you like her writing drop her a line - STOP lurking and be a pal feed the bard!  ... now I don't know the couple but they could easily picture characters from a favourite story line - even if short blond and tall dark aren't in the picture.... could it be Caid the "Balantine Babe" from Dabkey's "And Playing the role of herself" and her love interest Robyn who just happened to be sporting both a very visible boyfriend Josh and a less obvious stalker. Well probably not as both Caid and Robyn tends to be a bit protective of their private lives and not much is private when you are an actress. On the other hand it might be Mimi and Jolly as you might say that privacy is not high their list. Mimi is waiting in the wings - and not quit patiently - for the love of her life, Jolly to notice what is right in front of her eyes ... the love of her life, and once the cobweb has been dusted of Jolly's mind, they find "A place to Dance" very much in the spotlight or rather in their fathers face ...yes check it out!

Dancing is certainly not uncommon in our lesfic story lines and to some it's almost a lifestyle. Take Sheridan who is a regular on the dance floor with just about any hot babe that she can lay her eyes on ... well that is until Keefer happens to put herself firmly in the picture, but "Caution: Under construction" might just leave you a little breathless even if you aren't  joining the ladies on the dance floor.

If you go for the more serene dancing then an evening in the company of D.S. Bauden and "A Saving Solace" might be more to your liking. It's just one dance in the confinement of Kelly's home but it does take the story and the ladies to the next level. As is the case for Laurel and her friend Caden in Kim Pritekel's "Again". A dance in the privacy of home is just the thing that gets things moving towards the living happily ever after. If this is playing it a bit safe then try your hand with Xenasgrll's "A Safe Place" where Paige treats Madison to a dance which would not be deemed safe in a public place. Do you want me to go on .. then lets turn up the heat a notch with J Brownell's "Now and Forever" this time the ladies doesn't even make it to the dance floor even if they are dressed up to the nines and almost there, but then again they don't really need to go to the next level, they are already there.

Now don't get the impression that a dance is all it takes, sometimes a dance can spell disaster waiting to happen as is the case for Clancy in "Miss-Match" by AC Henley, but then again Max wasn't really whom she should have chosen for her first dance and she might think to thank Carmen for getting her ass out of trouble. As for dancing with the "wrong" woman Artemis Callaghan will set up Kit for trouble in the long run by accepting a dance with the wrong sister at the right time. A mix up YES - is it easy to fix - NO or YES - as long as you don't mind playing the fence a bit. Follow the ladies in Hen Night, Wedding reception, Honeymoon, Divorcee.

Go on there is a woman and a writer out there who is the ONE for you....

"Takes Two" by Elize

Life is like a string of moments spun and woven together by the twists and turns of fate but most of all by chance and randomness. When we look backwards we see a clear path leading from there to here, from our past to our present life. When we look forward ... who knows what we see ... a vision of where or what we are meant to make of ourselves, a dream come true or just our tomorrow ...

What Steph sees is the next port of call for herself and her six year old son Jason, and for Steph that next port of call is Port Baily. This is where we find Kate running the small restaurant above the harbour "Tavern-by-the-Sea" with her second generation Italian chef Fabricio.

What makes life special for Kate is the everyday life of serving her customers and following the seasonal changes in the little town on the coast from summertime with hordes of guests  to the quiet times of winter with just the locals looking in for coffee or an evening meal.

For Steph life is her son Jason and "Voyager" the 42ft Hinkcley her father left her upon his death 3 years ago. The "Voyager" has taken Steph from San Francisco to the East Coast. A long way on a sea chart, but in life ... well you go and look for yourself Steph and Jason is just about to put down their anchor in Port Baily, and if you keep your eyes open you will soon find that fate or perhaps it's chance secure a bumpy meet between Kate and the newcomers.

As you might have guessed a bumpy meet will lead to an acquaintance, to friendship and perhaps over time to more.... perhaps even a new vision of life to be for our protagonists.

This is romance as I like it best! Slow moving with time for the characters and the romance to evolve through the little moments that makes up the beats on the string of life, but most of all it's well written. I say Elize has got a talent for putting words together and penning LesFic.

"Takes Two" is an Uber archived at the J/7 Alcove. As usual I'm a bit out of my depth when it comes to the TV-series from which fanfic's originate. I get the impression that J/7 fanfiction originates in Star Trek. Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is not a universe that I'm well acquainted with, but I do seem to recall that one of my all time favourite stories "Campus" by Anik LaChev is also an J/7 fanfic.

The Tribe of The Big Round Bellies

Once the Wedding Vows has been taken care of the next thing your woman will start hinting is that it is time for you to start a family.

You might try to suggest a dog would be a perfect match - how about helping out a lovely creature from the animal shelter? Well if that does not work out I guess that you have to start reading up on immaculate conception or perhaps just get your ass down to the local hardware store ... or wherever you go to get your cooking utensils ... 'cos you will be needing a Turkey Baster!

On the other hand when I think about it all the fan fic's I've read featuring a pregnant woman I can't say that I've ever come across any Turkey Basters or the likes, so I guess that there are other ways to get the deed done?!

Now settle down and let me run through the stories with a pregnant protagonist and let's see if there are any turkeys running loose.

Usually the conception in question is quite natural - if I may say so - as in Man and Woman get close and rather personal. Now don't shoot me - I'm only en innocent bystander telling you what I've read (!) If you don't believe me then look up "Strings Attached" by Inyx. I don't think that it gets more natural than an awful lot of alcohol and an one night stand! With Inyx it's the getting up close and personal with your room mate / (girl)friend of seven years that might prove a bit difficult. Look up the review if you want to know the details.

You still don't believe me ? Ok then try "An Innocent Heart" by Heike Freudenmann and G. S. Binkley. This time it's not an one night stand but a steady - but soon-to-be ex-boyfriend -  that does the deed and puts Kim in a family way! So where do we go from here ? Will Kim be "doing the right thing" and make up with her ex or can she pursue a life as a single mother.... I think that her childhood friend Robin will help her make up her mind - look up a review here.

Luckily enough even devious boyfriends like Tucker Dane's Steve in Larisa's "Blue Calm", who sets out to get Tucker to marry him by getting her pregnant by "accident", can put into motion a change that will give us a lovely f/f romance and the start of a happy family of two mothers. Well in the case of Tuckers new love - Duncan - you might wonder if it's just the luck of genes of if she herself - Duncan that is - "fathered" the child 'cos Tuckers baby daughter looks an awful lot like our Dunk!

If you are "into" devious boyfriends you could also look up Terri, who ends up staying with the wealthy Noemi while she carries her child to term, and if you want to know how that happened and if Terri is going to move on when the baby is borne, you'll have to look up Katia Ruiz's story "Noemi" for your self.

I can think of just one more story where the expecting mother got pregnant the natural way and that's "When We Met" by B. Soiree. As I remember its an awful long story that takes you through the hardship of pregnancy and setting up family life with a newborn baby, but don't worry there is still a little time for romance now and then.

Now if you are looking to get pregnant with a little help from a very good friend and a doctor you could look up "A Place to Dance" by Ali Vali. This time "the getting pregnant thing" is very well planed, but there is still the small question of putting the news to your partner.... It's really not as odd as it might sound and "A Place to Dance" is a favourite of mine so don't hesitate to look it up if you have the urge for a good romance.

While we are on the question of favourites I might as well mention "All That Matters" by SX Meager. I know that this is another very long story, but that can't be helped as SX Meager is the master of the long winded romance. Should you have the time then look in on the life of Blair and her husband David who is out looking to have a bit of help with the "getting pregnant thing", which lands Blair with a divorce and on the road to become a single mother (!) ... you might ask how that happens and as you can imagine I won't tell you! I will however let you know that Blair has a very supportive - and surprise - lesbian friend Kylie who lends the pregnant Blair a helping hand when she leaves David. Look up the women while Blair is carrying her child to term and see if Blair is lucky enough to score the "girlfriend" job with Kylie.

You still haven't got enough of all the round bellies getting bigger and bigger and .. ? ... ok then look up Keegan and follow her as she is carrying her child to term as a single mother... hm you want some romantic action as well - don't worry Keegans former girlfriend Gwen is around and she is trying hard to persuade Keegan that what she should take a chance on love, and I ask you who can say no to an offer like that when it's put forward by "America's Sweetheart" ?

If you think that children are a great part of the equation of love and romance then look up the list of stories that I've put together in Listmania or my ramble on this topic.

The Shaken Series by KG MacGregor

"It looks like you’re crawling in the doggie door naked ?" Well that's what Anna thinks ... do you want to  knows what might have caused her to get that idea ?

I have neither dog nor doggie door, but I might have to get at least the doorthing if it's at all possible that I will have the chance to find a beautiful, naked woman stuck right there in the middle ... neither in nor out!

I take it that you would have to be of a rather slight frame to actually attempt to use a doggie door to enter a house or at least you will have to have a real appealing reason to do so ... perhaps both. If you want to know Lilly's reason to attempt this way of entering her own home you might want to look up KG MacGregors Anna and Lilly series - "Shaken", "Stirred", "Strained", "Anna's Christmas", "I told You So", "Blood of My Blood" or you could move on to Bold Stroke Books and buy the published version of the four books in the Shaken Series.

This is basic LesFic romance with the standard storyline of out girl meets straight girl, friendship turns to love, and we - the readers - wonders who will make the first move to get the "show" on the road. This ever successful storyline is really well executed in the KG MacGregors pen especially in the first part of the series - "Shaken".

The story setting is interesting with a catching combination of business woman, as in luxury car dealer Anna Kaklis, who is set to take over the family company, and social conscious attorney Lilly Stuart, who tirelessly fights the cause of battered women. The women meet under extraordinary circumstances that prove to be the starting point of a life changing journey of self discovery and one that will get us all we want from our LesFic romance ... the angst, the love and LHEA. If you choose to go "all the way" with Lilly and Anna you will get the chance to follow not only the process of finding and fighting for love, but also the building of family life.

If you haven't started your reading of KG MacGregor stories yet then "Shaken" is a good place to start.

Cephalgia aka Val Brown and MJ aka MJ Walker

"Cephalgia" .... a nice little something to mush on in your favourite chair on a Sunday,  a headache, a writer .... perhaps a little of all three ? In the world of F/F Fan Fiction the pen name Cephalgia and the duo of Cephalgia and MJ promises a romantic read. If you tag along I will introduce you.

Lets start with Cephalgia on her own - you will find several little reads by Cephalgia's pen to pass some time and if you want to do so with a smile you could try "The Trouble with Ancients". This is about Alli who happens to take a much needed vacation by way of Great North Tours' bus trip "A Fabulous Singles Excursion to San Francisco" ... only she did not realize that those Singles was seniors as in old ladies ... well that is except for the driver Ty!

While we are on the subject of vacation you could look up Cephalgia's PWP series about Holly, as in 28 year old brunette on the trip of her dreams to ... London, and Gina, as in raven haired beauty and London Innkeeper. You can tag along as the girls get intimately acquainted in "The British Invasion" and work on feeding the flames ignited in "Body English". If you choose to continue you can see if they work out their differences in "Her Majesty's Pleasure" and how they tackle a visit from the up and coming Mother-in-law.

However pleasurable this vacation in London might turn out for Holly I still think that it's lacking as far as the mushy romance goes, as you might have guessed I am inclined towards a bit of romantic reason for jumping between the sheets ... even if its a raven haired beauty beckoning.

If you want your PWP with a bit of romance you could mix Cephalgia with MJ and join them when they tell you the story about Wilder and her long time friend Darcy who decides to take an almost scientific approach to establishing whether sex with a woman is more pleasurable than with a man.

OK this might not sound like at teaser for a romantic PWP, but if you throw in a bit of "in love with her best friend" and "never going to tell her" then you might see where this is leading. So try on  "Unlimited Sexual Favours" for size and if you like it follow up with "More Unlimited Sexual Favours" and "The Return of Unlimited Sexual Favours". This is a sure way to put a smile on your face while you watch girls turn from friends to lovers.

Should you want a storyline with less emphasis on the activities between the sheets, you could look up “The Heart of the Matter” by Cephalgia. This is a story centred around Davey, a little boy with a heart disorder, and his mother Crystal, who lives her life wondering just when their visits to the hospital is the fatal one for Davey. Into this little family enters Lauren an ICU nurse who makes Crystal and her son the subject of her master thesis and in the process gains a family. It's a sweet and well written story of romance between the lesbian nurse and her new found - perhaps not so - straight friend.

I know that was a little close to RL .... well perhaps not the romantic part, but the worrying about life and death of loved ones. So maybe we should lift the spirits a bit ... how about a visit to the beach, how about getting acquainted with a lovely blond, how about graphing a new business opportunity when it presents it self and how about turning your life around to catch up with love. Meet Toni who is lounging in her beach chair until she catches a hat, and meet Rae, who is working hard to set up a juice bar. The girls will take you through "The Dregs of Summer", and setting up shop on the beach during "Endless Summer". It is all just a bit of fun, but we wanted to lighten up the spirits a bit didn't we - well at least I did.

Now are you ready for RL again ? If so join me online for a chat session on the benefits of garlic chest rubs at Brightwoood Pharmaceutical's website. Manning the website is Randa a US nurse working from home while she awaits the fairy tale romance of true love. Now I promised RL so be warned this is not just romance and a bumpy road to LHEA, it's also an account of living with a close relative with deteriorating health due to sclerosis.

Through the Brightwoood website Randa meets Denise an acclaimed English poet in need of advise on how to help her aunt Sara who has just been diagnosed with sclerosis. What begins as a professional online relationship slowly turn to friendship and sharing in the care of Sara. I will leave you guess where this will lead the women! Connecting Hearts is co-written by Cephalgia and MJ and so is the sequel Family Connections, a story I haven't had time to read.

Now I guess I should leave you to your reading - if you just have time for on or two stories in your busy social calendar I suggest that you pick "The Heart of the Matter" for the well written storyline and "Unlimited Sexual Favours" for the humour and romance.
Several of Val Brown and MJ Walkers stories has been published by Blue Feather Books.

Ramble - on this and that

As you might have noticed I'm not really doing any reading at the moment! Well that's not entirely true, I do read stuff but either I'm just jumping from one "old" and well proven online story to another or I'm enjoying myself with general fiction which does not really fit the theme of this blog.

So this time I'm just going to give you a mix of whatever comes to mind....

Have you been following the news on The Royal Academy of Bards ? If not then perhaps you ought to look up the entry for the 11th of August and learn which bards was voted into the Academy's Hall of Fame this summer. If you need a suggestion on what to read you can look up the list of the stories voted into the Hall of Fame as well.

I'm happy to see that Ann McMan and her story "Jerico" was voted into The Hall of Fame. It's a fun, mushy romance with a killer dialogue, but I guess that you know that by now ?

McMan's latest story "Dust" made it to the Hall of Fame as well. This is a quite different type of story, a sort of "political thriller" with a romantic twist, not the mushy romance type of story that I'm so fond of ;-)

"Dust" is what Evan stirrers up when she goes hunting for the dirty parts of an up and coming politicians life before the party decides on the backing of the candidate. This time she finds not only dirty secrets but also an estranged, but very good looking - lesbian - wife, lurking in the side wings of the up and coming senator's life.

This is LesFic so YES Evan and the senators wife do get to know one another "up close and personal", but somehow I keep looking back ...is this for "real" of just a trick for Evan to get close to the information that she is looking for or for the senators wife to keep a close tap on what Evan is digging up?? If you like LesFic thrillers don't miss this one - it's very well written. A tight and precise language and a well structured storyline even if it drops of a bit at the end.

You can find both "Jerico" and "Dust on the Academy and on Ann McMan's website. "Jericho" and  "Dust" might be the last free fic's from McMan's pen - it seems that she has made it into print with her first book. This is great as she really do turn out stories with a good quality of writing.

While we are on the theme of Hall of Fame Stories lets take a stroll back in time at The Academy's Hall of Fame - maybe you have missed out on a really great read. Come along if you need a bit of guidance.

2010 was the year that one of my favorite romances with humor entered The Hall of Fame. If you have missed "Miss-Match" do not hesitated to look it up - its everything you need in a LesFic - jumping the fence, coming out, a blind date, women looking for the one to spend their life, and everything in a mix of great dialoge and a well put together storyline with likeable characters.

While we are on the subject of A.C.Henley - one of the two co-writers of Miss-Match - I might as well tell you that she also penned "One-Two-Oh" a little story of cowgirls and on how come every lesbian within a 500-mile zone decides to show up on Rose's doorsteps, even though she really only has eyes for Charlotte.

From The Hall of Fame Voting in the year 2010 you might also like Zee's "Comic Book Life" this time you'll get a story based on the concept of "young love that never dies" mixed with a bit of fun and a child that you have to keep your eyes on.

I'm not going to walk through every Hall of Fame voting with you - you can do so on you own, but I might just point out a few other favorites that have earned a place in The Hall of Fame though the years.

Artemis Callaghan's "Something so Close to Love" received the necessary votes to enter The Hall in 2008. I do like Callaghan's writing and "Something so Close to Love" has characters with more depth than the usual online fic. There is a review somewhere on this blog - if you want to know more before you commit yourself to a reading.

The first year that The Hall of Fame voting took place some of the best uber writers was voted into The Hall ... Radclyffe, SX Meager, Missy Good, LJ Maas, Ali Vali and KG MacGregorer. Among the stories chosen for The Hall of Fame that year is another long time favorite of mine "None So Blind" - it doesn't get more romantic than that. You can look up the review on the blog by looking up the reviews on stories by LJ Maas.

Should you want to take a break from the world of words maybe you can relax with some pic's - no, not interested ? Well what if I told you that we are talking "America the Beautiful" by Elle ? As a teaser I'll give you Hillery Swank.

Elle says: "We searched from coast to coast to find the loveliest celebrity native of each state in the union (plus the District of Columbia!)".

If this is not the kind of pic's you fancy you can always look up the latest show from "The Big Picture at Boston.com". Beware - it's not always pretty !

For pretty and adventurous pic's I always visit National Geographic. Last time I stopped by I met with "The Rower". Did you know that it takes 2.5 mio. oarstroks to cross The Pacific ?

Have fun !

Gun Shy by Lori L. Lake

I sometimes wonder how we come to choose our profession and the jobs we spend a good part of our lives working. I know that not everyone gets a choice, sometimes work is a matter of taking what's on offer, but during the span of a lifetime, I think that most of us makes choices that affect our professional lives.

Is it a flashy uniform, a specific professional challenge, a family tradition or a quest for something that influence our choice of profession or job ? Is it perhaps sometimes something closer to our hearts - sympathy, adoration, infatuation .... love? Well I guess that it probably takes a mushy lesfic to make love part of the equation, but hey I could be wrong?

Anyway for Jaylynn Savage the impressive blue clad image of police officer Dez Reilley charging in to stop two attackers from hurting her and her friend Sara does make an impression strong enough to pull Jaylynn off her chosen track towards law school and into the Police academy.

So here we go - Jaylynn makes the transition from college student to police cadet and rookie riding with .... Dez as her Field Training Officer - now how lucky can one woman get in just a few months ? Well not that lucky! Dez is not someone to make friends and certainly not of fellow female officers! Even the outgoing, fun, beautiful blond Jaylynn find it hard to compete with the ghosts from Dez's past, but even if Dez is standoffish she does have friends who will work to encourage Jaylynn to keep up her attacks on Dez's amour.

Even though we do get a taste of the everyday routines of patrolling the city streets this is primarily the story of the developing relationship between Jaylynn and Dez .... so I guess that this is mostly a story for the mushy romantics among lesfic readers, but it's well written and with enough of a supporting cast of characters to give the storyline some fill and to develop the characters of Dez and Jaylynn beyond the basics.

The turning point of the romance is a body building competition that Dez takes part in - so if weight routines in the gym, dieting and muscular women is your thing - maybe you want to look up the story even if the mushy romance is not what you like the best!

"Gun Shy" has been published as have the sequels, "Under the Gun" and "Have Gun We'll Travel". Only "Gun Shy" and "Under the Gun" is available online.

Life's Little Edge by Roselle Graskey

A coin has two sides - Heads and Tails - and so has Callan O'Malley. One is O'Malley the ex-soldier harden by battle and the responsibility of keeping her men alive. Now she is living life on the edge, running illegal guns to Spyder the leader of the local biker gang. The other one is Callan a woman devastated by the tragic loss of her partner Ellen in a car crash, which might not have been purely accidental.

O'Malley is the one who wins Terry in a bet of "One Punch" against her boyfriend Trey and given the "ethics" in the world of bikers, O'Malley has to keep what's her's! Which put's her on the spot with Trey, who really don't like to lose his bread winner.

Terry on the other hand seems to be a rather meek woman who really don't mind to change hands as she is getting tired of Trey's hard handling and the fact that he spends her wages on poker. On the other hand she is not quit sure what O'Malley wants from her except perhaps a bedmate....

While O'Malley is the one winning the prize, Callan is the woman to take Terry in and keep her safe at night when nightmares ruins her sleep, and eventhough O'Malley is the one to do the dealing with Spyder and throw the punches when needed - and sometimes they are needed very badly - it's still Callan, who gets into bed with Terry at night.

"Life's Little Edge" is a tightly woven drama where you have to question what is true and what is double crossing make believe - so I think I'll leave you with this teaser on the storyline. It is a great story - one of the best if you want a good mix of drama and romance. The tightly woven drama keeps you on edge and the well developed romance sweetens the deal considerably.

As often the case with on line stories you will find several little mistakes in the writing that might give you reason to read a sentence twice, but it doesn't kill the joy of reading. I guess that the mistakes have been ironed out in the printed version published by P.D.Publishing.

If you are hard pressed for time this week then let this be the one story you choose to read, I don't think that you will regret it.

Cooking on High by Creme Brulee

The truly great cooks knows how to create that perfect bite - the bite the combine sour, sweet, salty, bitter and that undefined something that you can't really put a name to.

In the universe of online f/f fiction Creme Brulee is one of those chefs who really know how to mix up a dish to tickle your taste butts, but "Cooking on High" is not just one great dish - it is a full meal, mixing drama, fun, romance and a good storyline all in one.

French is "French" - not as in "from France" but rather as in a French chef. She has earned her toque - tall paper hats French-trained chefs wear - in the real world by hard work. Ruthless and obsessive in her quest for perfection. Never missing a chance to push herself forward, no-matter the consequences. Now she is on top of Haute Cuisin, running her restaurant Bachanal on an island of the coast of New England to perfection, and harbouring a wish to leave behind the competitiveness and dirty dog fights of her past. But it is one thing to teach yourself new tricks, it's quite another to get those around you to accept the change!

You will find plenty of drama in "Cooking on High" with murder, fierce competitors and wronged lovers, but when you clear the smoke, your eyes will soon catch up with someone small and blond... a small Fry. She is that little something that makes an ordinary sauce turn exceptional, she is what makes changes happen in everyday life - as in changing you view, as in messing with you mind, as in how your heart starts beating faster ...

This is uber when it's at its best, the instant attraction between "tall and gorgeous" and "vertically challenged", is left to simmer on the stove whiles the ladies get acquainted through a bit of teamwork on an investigation into the murder of a local politician and of cause the daily battle in the kitchen and on the floors of the Bachanal. Do watch out, French knows how to throw her knifes and deliver sharp punches both physically and - of cause - vocally.

What I like the best about Creme Brulee's writing is the dialog - it's sharp and witty. Creme Brulee is an expert in bringing the storyline forward, giving you and insight to the characters and putting a smile on your face through the dialog between the protagonists - this is a great asset to the storyline.

If you get high on cooking fumes you might want to look up Damnation's "Burned Sugar" or Fingersmith's "Critical". Both stories sport a good looking chef ready to mix good food with a bit of romance and drama.

Creme Brulee's stories are posted on "The Celestial Buffet" but I'm sad to say that no new fic's by Creme Brulee have been added recently. Due to the quality of the writing I do wonder if this pen has published under a different pen name - does anyone know??

Ramble - a walk through The Top 100 of 2010

Why don't you walk with me as I explore the Top 100 list at The Athenaeum ? You might find a gem that you have overlooked or maybe an old favourite that you want to read again.

Before we start our walk you might want to read up on the site we are going to visit. So I will just give you some numbers to chew on. The Athenaeum list 6759 works from 1538 authors, with 485 of those works available in eBook format - impressive or what ? In 2010 a total of 2.847.848 links where followed to stories archived at the site or externally at other sites. The 100 links most often followed in 2010 ? Well if you want to know ... follow me.

Normally I would work my way to the top and save the best bit for last, but lets be daring today! The 2010 Story of The Year is ..... (a long drum roll can be heard) ...."Denial" by Omega13. This is a  loooong lesfic drama with a lot of angst, and I must admit that I never got through the story, probably because I found that it took to long to get to the LHEA ending. The core of the storyline is an attraction between Celeste and her brothers fiancĆ©e Amy. The story is very well rated at The Athemaeum.

As the fitness freaks among you will know walking down hill is much more taxing than the walk up hill, so lets make this a slow stroll down from The Story of The Year to number 4 "Dark Side of The Moon" by my favourite pen BadSquirrel. Who by the way seems to have her first published fic in the works ! If you are into the gender bending and BDSM stuff this is a story for you. It is well written, but to me - a bit over the top. Should the BDSM theme be something you are interested in exploring through other fic's, you can find a few stories listed at the "Listmania" page.

At spot number 11 you will find Fingersmith's new romance/drama "Critical" a well written story involving a restaurant owner, a food critic and an obsession that creates a bit of drama. It did remind me slightly of Creme Brulee's "Cooking on High" with a notorious chef that get's herself involved with "the help" and in a fight with a powerful man. I'm very fond of Creme Brulee's writing, but it seems that this pen no longer posts fic's on line - maybe someone know if Creme Brulee has published books under another name ??

My all time favourite fic "Rumors" by BadSquirrel came in 17 in 2010. This is much better than the 48th spot the story earned in 2009. Maybe some of you have followed my advice to look up this story ? If not - then put on your running shoes and go go go ... I have posted a review if you want an introduction to the storyline.

The short PWP  "IMPOTENT or maybe not" by Gracelan Chase came in as number 18 with the story of how to cure writers block. If you want erotica with a romantic twist you can also look up Vertigo's "Caution: Under Construction" or MJ and Cephalgia's "Unlimited Sexual Favours".

Of cause Mavis Applewater also made it to the list in 2010. This time as number 20. "Finding My Way" is my favourite story from Mavis' pen. If you want a well put together romantic storyline do not miss this one - look up my review if you want an introduction. "Campus" from Anik LaChev will take you into a similar University setting, but you will have to be a bit nifty with the Wayback Machine to locate the story as it has been taken off line for publication. With a bit of editing (it's a very long read) it will make a great book.

If you have not read any of Weebod's stories I think that you ought to give "Conflict of Interests" a try. It holds a broad, well developed storyline, some interesting characters,  and romance and angst in the right places. The story made it to place 24 on the Top 100. Should you fancy this pen do back up a few steps and look up number 6 on the list. Weebod's "The Player" is a romance mixed with a bit of field hockey .. you know hockey played on grass not ice.

I am getting a bit tired from walking down hill so I think I will take a break and leave you at place 30 with A.K.Naten's "Turning Tides" so you can go visit a business tycoon with a habit of playing games of dominance with the women she finds attractive. Look up my review if you want further introduction. Alex Tryst's "Adventures of a Super Dyke" has a somewhat similar theme, but the storyline is not quite my style.

Maybe I will pick up the Top 100 list later. In the meantime do explore on your own - the list hold links to several good reads.

Crystal's Heart by B L Miller

(Unknown photographer)
I know we are way past Valentines Day by now, but maybe some of you are still musing on chocolates and looking at a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from you lover, partner or perhaps from someone who wants to be more than just friends!

Ok, ok I know I'm not a writer of romance novels so I should probably just leave Valentines alone. Should you want to dive into a romantic Valentines story  you can look through the specials at The Royal Academy of Bards - there is plenty to choose from.

If you are happy to leave Valentine behind - follow me while I go visit with Laura and her room mate from hell.

Laura is a writer of lesfic mystery novels and at the moment she is struggling with writers block. The story she is working on is not moving along as planed and her deadline is getting closer. On top of everything a friend dumps the stripper Crystal on her doorstep as her new room mate. This might not have been a bad thing as Crystal is nice to look at! Buuuut if you are a neurotic neat freak like Laura, a beer drinking pothead, who can not fold the newspaper right and who leaves the bathroom in a mess, is not exactly who you want to share your home with.

As you might have guessed the ladies do get past their differences, but this is by no means an easy journey - especially for Crystal who travels with a heavy baggage from an abusive childhood. Which  explains some of her habits and the nightmares that haunt her at night.

If you are alright with a slow moving romance based on an "opposites attract" theme, this might be a story for you. Among BL Millers pieces this is my favourite as  the storyline and characters is really catching.

For once we are even spared the usual lesfic angst! It is really not needed as the story has a broader perspective than the romance. It's a positive story of a survivor - even if it does give the impression that the process of healing after yearlong abuse can be done in a short span of time.

Should the theme of childhood abuse not be one you want to look closer at tonight maybe you can just enjoy the view of the field of what I deem to be lavender - if nothing else it fits with the color theme here at The Corner ;-)

The Light Fantastic by L.A.Tucker

Do you know how much time and hard work it takes to create a golf course?

Well you might not really care as you think of golf courses as an unnecessary evil that uses up valuable resources for no better reason than creating a bit of fun for people with the means to enjoy it. If that is the case then do remember this is just fiction - and good romantic fiction at that.

Let’s go back to square one and maybe you will answer the question now. Do you know how much time and hard work it takes to create a golf course? No ? Then do tag along with Sara as she works the land at her brother Dave’s soon to be golf course. You will either find her on the tractor mowing or beneath it as she works out the latest mechanical problem. Do not worry about gate crashing - Sara usually works alone - the only company she accepts is that of her nephew Nelson and her brother Dave. Anyone else might just set her of on yet another anxiety attach.

This is classic uber when it is at its best so you might be able to guess what or rather whom might help Sara get over her angst and back in a life of her own? Well it might help if you knew that Sara is a tall, blue eyed beauty. Did you say Chloe ? As in the small green eyed outgoing local drama teacher and librarian ? If you did you are spot on!

Sara is actually a local celebrity as she attended the local High School and College before she went of on a modeling and acting career that made her a household name. After an accident she dropped out of the limelight and disappeared only to resurface at her brother Dave’s house a few years later with a battered face and soul.

Reading this you might think that “The Light Fantastic” is about Sara, but really that is not the case, it is about Chloe and all the things her work as a director of the musical “Oklahoma” at the local High School sets in motion in her life and in the lives of those around her. And things do move along in this story, not always in a straight line - we do after all need bumps in the road to keep us interested - but forward all the same for Sara and Chloe, and for all the subplots acted out by the lovely supporting cast of local characters.

It would be too simplistic to call this a romance as “The Light Fantastic” has a much broader appeal - it’s a general drama with many interesting and well developed characters, it is humor, witty dialog and great entertainment. This is one of the truly great fan fic’s!!

“The Light Fantastic” seem to have been published by Regal Crest back in 2003, but it does not seem to be readily available any more.

If you find Sara and Chloe and their friends entertaining you might want to look up the sequel ”Inside out” or the little Halloween stories “Küssen Des Banditen” and “The Foursome”.

Jericho by Ann McMan

What would it take for you to uproot you life and move to a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia ? Well perhaps the question should really be directed to Syd our young librarian who has packed her ’95 Volvo station wagon with her belongings, a good number of books and pointed her car in the direction of Jericho, Virginia.

Syd might say that she is excited about the prospect of setting up a new local library in Jericho to provide service to the locals, but what she really wants is to have some time to rethink her life now that she is about to finalise her divorce and join “The First Wife Club”.

If you are a soft hearted romantic looking for some mushy romance to feed on, you will most likely support Syd’s decision on moving to Jericho right from turning the second page of this fic! Well that is if you are comfortable spending a bit of time with a short blond - Syd - and a tall brunette - the local doctor Maddie, and you ought to be because Syd and Maddie are a strikingly good looking pair.

The doctor is nothing but remarkable with an impressive professional record and her willingness to go out of her way to help just about anyone in need - even a stranger stranded in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire and no mechanical skills to speak of. Will you take a guess .... who might that stranger be ?

So what is a 34 year old - good looking - doctor doing in the middle of small town America .... alone ? Well this doctor has decided to leave behind a thriving medical career in Philadelphia, a record of bad relationships and return to her hometown of Jericho to reconnect with old friends, and take over as the local GP after her father - who died unexpected - and left her his clinic, house and his dog Pete.

Even if the locals are a friendly bunch Maddie do miss something in her life, someone beyond her dog to share a sunset with, a glass of wine, a pizza and a laugh, and it seems that Syd is willing to provide the friendship to go along with the shared pleasures.

The question of couse is if Syd is willing to share more than friendship with Maddie - it is after all a romance! Well “more” do require Syd to jump the fence and I guess that it would help if Maddie did come out of her semi closet and reveal to Syd that she is gay, but all come to those who wait, lets just hope that it’s worth waiting for!

“Jericho” is a great, well written romance with a killer dialog between the protagonists. The dialog is one of the best I’ve come across in fan fic, it’s fun, entertaining and displays a great wit - this might actually be the strongest feature of the fic.

The storyline might be described as simple with little drama and the likes. It’s just a slow journey of getting to know each other, seeing new possibilities and trying to let go of old habits, and for once we are spared the usual improbable misunderstandings, misconceptions and any other “misses” between the love birds that we usually bump into in romantic (fan) fiction.

You might ask - if this is a slow moving romance, with little drama and none of the usual bumps on the road towards “Living Happily Ever After”, then what’s in it for me - except waiting for someone to jump between the sheets ? Well - besides the dialogue - you will be treated to well-develop cast of characters, not only the protagonists Syd and Maddie are well fleshed out, this is also the case with Maddie’s friends the gay inn owner David and his partner Michael who plays central roles in this fic alongside a number of local Jericho characters.

If you like mushy romance, and you can live without the drama and lady knights in shining armor, you really should look up "Jericho" - it’s a great and long romance. Once you have finished the story you can follow this link - nooo read the story first!

White Coats, Warm Hands and Wondrous Hearts

White coats come in many tones of colour and in an infinite number of shapes. You can get a brand new white mink coat - if you can afford one that is - or a shabby woollen one. You can put on a navy dress white uniform - if you earned the right to wear one - or you can put on a lab coat. Clothes make people and the lab coat can - almost - make a doctor.

White coats, warm hands and wondrous hearts or doctors, nurses and the romances they inspire - it’s medical dramas with a romantic twist or perhaps romance with a medical twist. Whatever the case if you are obsessed with bodily welfare or think that trauma and the people who fight to preserve life is entertaining you have probably watched a few episodes of a medical drama or perhaps read one of Radclyffe’s medical lesfic’s. You might even have looked up some E.R. or Grey’s Anatomy fan fiction. Have you had your fill ? Or do you need another fix ? If you need some private time with a capable physician you can look through the list of my favourite medical romances in Listmania.

Still not healed ? Ok then you could visit with some of the doctors and nurses that populate the fic’s mentioned below.

“The Healing Touch” series by K. Darblyne features Trauma Fellow Garrett Trivoli and Trauma Nurse Danni Bossard and a whole lot of ER traumas. The series gives us an in depth description of Garrett’s and Danni’s work to save lives in the ER and as a Flight Surgeon’s team going out by helicopter to give medical help at accidents - so if trauma is your thing, go right ahead and follow the links below. Should you look for a little romance I can assure you that even if the godlike doctor Trivoli do find teamwork and friendship a demanding task  Dannie will inspire the her to take a chance and reach out for something beyond her usual safe zone.

The series consists of two stories “The Fellowship” and “Up in the Air” and you’ll have to read both to work through the infinite number of misunderstandings etc. that the ladies have to endure on the road towards a romantic union - this time it’s above and beyond reason! The series is relatively well rated on The Athenaeum - I on the other hand found the romance to be a bit lacking and rather long winded.

If winter, snow and frost are taking its toll in your neck of the woods you might want to go down south to Louisiana and visit with Harry and Desi. It’s the love of a lifetime come true when Desi is brought into the ER with a broken leg after a fierce beating with a bat swung by her husband. Desi’s high school sweetheart Harry will mend her leg and her heart with her loving. Along the way Harry will find time to perform orthopaedic surgery on the old and wealthy - which will more than pay the bills - as well as the less fortunate with a need for a “do-good-doctor”. If you ask me Harry is too good to be true! Which is probably why I did not find the romance really catching.

And while we are on the subject of Ali Vali who penned “How Do You Mend a Broken Heart” and the sequels “All it Took Was You” and “Bell of the Mist” with Harry and Desi, I might as well mention that my favourite Ali Vali romance is “A Place to Dance”. You won’t find any lab coats in that story but you will be treated to a woman with able hands - give her a tool belt and she will craft the most beautiful furniture you can imagine. If you are a romantic at heart you should not miss this story.

Should you want for a little private healing at the hands of a capable ER physician you could venture out on Dupont Circle in Washington and watch out for Q as she exits the subway always on the look out for the neighbourhood tugs who will beat her up given half the chance. This time the tugs get lucky which lands Q in the able hands of Dr. Taylor Winslow at D.C.Metropolitan Hospital who will eventually provide private care for the homeless Q, who in return will show Taylor a bit of drama and a lot of loving. "Street Life" by J.A.Zollicoffer is drama and romance all in one and I found it catching enough to read a second time.

Now do not think that the world of medical fiction is dedicated to doctors alone - after all what would good doctors do without the warm hands of capable nurses to sooth and comfort the patients and their frightened relatives ? “The Heart of the Matter” by Cephalgia is a romance centred around Davey, a little boy with a heart disorder, and his mother Crystal, who lives her life wondering just when their visit to the hospital will be fatal for Davey. Into this little family enters Lauren an ICU nurse who makes Crystal and her son the subject of her master thesis and in the process gains a family.

This story focuses on the patient and relatives rather than the medical personnel and even if it centres on a boy with a servere heart condition the heart of the matter is the romance between the lesbian nurse and her new found - perhaps not so - straight friend. It’s a sweet and well written story.

There is a time and a place where the white lab coats and the doctors who wear them no longer matters. A time when only warm hands, love and understanding gives you the ease of body and mind needed to face the ultimate challenge in life ... to let go. We cannot play around the medic’s without happening on tragedy at some stage and this seems to be as good a time as any to let Dee introduce Isabelle and her nurse Marty, their friendly and loving banter and their fast rolling romance that starts of in a hospital ward and end a too short time later when there is just no more fighting left to do.

You should not read “Isabelle” unless you have hankies close at hand, and you can handle the big C without getting bad dreams. “Isabelle” is just a short story, but it’s touching and very well written - especially in the dialogue that presents a fun and easy banter between the ladies that you do not come across too often. Do not miss this one - it sort of puts all the medical drama and romance in the right perspective.

Bar Girls by Jules Kurre

If you thrive on poetry and jump at the chance to join in a little quick competition of who can name the poem or the poet, you might have a bit of fun with Jules Kurre’s “Bar Girls” that features two uberish English majors with a photographic memory for poetry. Don’t worry the story is enjoyable even if you are not a poetry geek!

In “Bar Girls” you’ll get to meet Keagan a dark and brooding wannabe writer who seeks material for her stories at the local bar. Most nights you’ll find her there with a drink scribbling away in her notebook while she observes the other guests. She might go on a date once in a while, but never for the fun of it – just to interact with someone to gain material for her writing. Now how weird is that ?

As you might have guessed Keagan has an issue with emotional commitment and relationships, so I guess that she is not the most likely partner for a young blond, playful and strong-minded woman like Rudy who is looking for love. But we all know that a feisty blond isn’t easily discouraged once she has set her eyes on someone, and Rudy reckons that for her Keagan are “it” – this is love at first sight!

**SPOILER ALERT** “Bar Girls” is really just the rather simple story of how Rudy succeeds in getting through to Keagan’s heart, and the journey Keagan and Rudy make together from meeting at the bar to friends and lovers, but I found it real entertaining to follow this journey as the story is served with a lot of playful banter, and an enjoyable writing style.

The story was published back in 2000, but I don’t think it’s available any more - except as used copy.

If you like the characters of Keagan and Rudy you might want to look up the sequel “The Guardian”.

If you want a little insight into the process of writing "Bar Girls" and "The Guardian" go look up Jules comments here]

The Deal by M. Ryan

LGBT, DINK, IGLHRC, ILGA, AGLBIC ….no I didn’t make any of these abbreviations up they are all quit legit ! So is ABC, CNN, NBC, PBS, CBS and if you work in the world of TV you got to know your acronyms and abbreviations by heart - at least if you work State sides.

Laura Kasdan does know her way around the world of TV as she is currently the News Director of KDAL in Dallas, an upmarket TV station. Laura, or Kaz as she is called, is the young “hot star” of the news world able to deliver the ratings that management requires. Then something happens - the primadonna of the newsroom go and grab her ass which in return lands him with a bloodied nose and guess what - the tree gets shaken and Laura ends up with the job as News Director at the middle market WBFC in Burkett Falls – talk about injustice!

WBFC is a station in trouble, with ratings going down and revenue dwindling, but with the good looking six feet of blue eyed help riding in on the plane from Dallas, things are looking up for the station and for the accident prone reporter and news anchor Chris Hanson, who in return will turn Laura’s world up side down.

Chris is – if you are wondering – the green eyed blond that we need to move the story from newsroom drama to classic alt romance. Chris is good on the screen, which is something that Laura realize almost immediately, but Chris is so much more than just talent, she is outgoing, friendly and she has an eye for a good looking woman, but that’s not something that you advertise in an industry with moral clauses in the contracts. Even though Chris is already good, Laura can make her better, and she might just be what Chris needs to make it to the networks ….. and in other aspects of life.

But there is more to Laura than The News, she has a real passion in life – golf – and as a former U.S. Amateur golf champion for two consecutive years she is working hard to get enough tee time to see her through the qualifications to the tournament once again.

“The Deal” is an excellent story with great dialogue, an imaginative and broad storyline, well developed characters and a slow moving love story – with that natural flow that I like! What more could you possibly want – this is Uber when it’s at its best! So let your hair down, grab a hot drink and settle down – this is a story well worth your reading time.

Sadly enough “The Deal” is the only novel length story that M(aggie) Ryan seems to have posted or published (Justice House Publishing 2001). A sequel was started years ago but never finished – if you are prepared to be left hanging look up “Shell Game” and if you really really, really need just a little bit of extra time with Laura and Chris you can look up the vignette “Seventeen Minutes”.

Blue Calm by Larisa

I know that you probably don’t want to hear about it no more, but I’m a biiig Larisa fan, and well I’m the blogger, your the reader, so at least in this aspect of life I’ll lead and you follow … well I guess that’s just until you hit the keyboard and quell my ramblings while you turn you attention onto other more interesting topics on the net.

According to the calendar it’s summer – it’s supposed to be warm, sunny and dry, but it’s not! It’s lukewarm at best; the rain keeps falling and the sun …. well I haven’t seen it for days.

So I for one needs a bit of sunny weather to keep my spirit up and I know just where to find it! I’ll pack my bags and take the surfboard on a spin in the waves of the coast of Hawaii – ups I think that I got to get myself a new bikini or something – the granny black thing in the back of the bottom drawer in my dresser certainly wont do at a surfer paradise … OK so while I go pick up a chick bikini why don’t you entertain yourself with a couple of Larisa goofballs and a pair of women making go-go eyes at each other?

Let me introduce you to Tucker Danes, her fiancƩ Steve, the bartender and surfer Dunk and her friends Ripples and Furball (the Larisa goofballs) and their sunny retreat in Hawaii.

Tucker Danes is not having quite the kind of vacation in Hawaii that you would usually dream of – at least not in the beginning – but after having dished her fiancĆ© and making the acquaintance of Mama - who rents out guest houses on the beach - things turn for the better when her green eyes meet Dunk’s baby blue.

And yes – they are “baby” blue – Dunk might have been around the block a few times – but deep down she is just a searching soul looking for someone to love and to love her back – and it seems that Tucker might just be that someone Dunk needs to fill her soul, body and mind.

If you want to feel the sun warming your skin and a romance your heart, join Tucker as she hangs out with Dunk at the beach learning to surf the waves, while they skinny dip at secluded waterfalls or hang out with Dunk’s best friends the goofballs Ripples and Furball. I guess that they could just be new friends taking pleasure in each others company, but if you believe that a leopard can changes its spots or a tiger its strips you might just believe that the hereto straight Tucker can fall head over heels for her butch new friend Dunk in two weeks.

This is classic Larisa fun with laughable scenes and funny dialogue, a bit of drama and of cause true love! ***Spoiler alert! This time Larisa even throws in a home birth and baby stuff, yes believe it or not Dunk – almost – got Tucker pregnant all by herself.

Artist's Dream by Gerri Hill

You might already know Gerri Hill from her novels published by Bella Books. A few of these has been reviewed by The Rev on the “Lesbian Fiction Review” site. If you haven’t familiarised yourself with Hill’s work yet, and you need an appetizer before you decide to spend your money on her published work, you can try out one of the fic’s by Hill available for download at the PDAfiction site.

I would recommend that you start out with “Artist’s Dream” that I have found to be a captivating romance. The story is centred on a woman’s struggle with her strict religious upbringing and her attraction to women. At the age of 33 Cassie has successfully run from her attraction to women for years, even in light of constant attempts from her lesbian best friend Kim and her partner Lisa to make her stop and own up to her true feelings.

You can run, but you cannot hide, at least not forever, what put an end to Cassie’s running from herself is the long tanned legs and dark brown eyes of Luke, a woman with a history of bad relationships and a battered heart. Luke is a successful architect and new to the small local community of artists and organic farmers, where Cassie and her friends live their lives. A string of chance meetings between Cassie and Luke paves the way to a friendship, a friendship that can turn into more if Cassie’s fears and her father don’t put an end to it.

“Artist’s Dream” is based one of the classic romantic storylines in lesfic, but I found it to be well executed and with an interesting and likeable cast of characters to move the story along. So I can definitely recommend that you give it a try.

For those of you who might not be familiar with the PDAfiction site where “Artist’s Dream” is archived I’ve included the following information.

If you like to keep your favourite on line fiction on file, PDAfiction offers a number of fics for download in different formats. I’m real fond of the .lit format that can be read on Windows based devices with the Microsoft Reader, which is free software you can download here.

The Athenaeum has also started to offer the option to download fic’s archived on the site in a number of formats. Should you have difficulties reading the formats offered on the devices that you have, you can use the free software Calibre to convert files to a number of different formats used on eBook readers and to keep your eBook library organised.

Don’t hesitate to try this out – I’m definitely not a computer geek – and I’ve had no difficulties with the software mentioned.

Unlimited Sexual Favours by Cephalgia and MJ

In my last review I referred to a discussion on the blog “Women and Words” about how a good lesfic should end. If you did follow the link in the review and looked in on the blog you properly noticed that the discussion turned to yet another “essential question”; should lesfic’s include sex. Now there you have a subject with substance for a long discussion ……. luckily enough the on line universe of f/f fiction has a story for everyone.

I for one don’t mind if the writer wants to mix romance and sex – somehow the two do mix rather well – but I don’t think that sex is a necessity in a romance. A romance can work well with just a kiss, a hug and a promise of something more. On the other hand if sex is to be part of a story, I have a few prerequisites, for one it must come natural and be a relevant an integral part of the storyline, and secondly the sex has to be well written – hmmm that’s a real explicit description. I guess it’s hard to pinpoint what makes a sex scene interesting – and it’s properly a rather subjective thing – so let me just say, that sometime less detail and fewer repetitions work better than the opposite.

Let me recommend a few f/f romances with different attitudes towards the sex scenes. In “Miss-Match” by Aurelia and A. C. Henley you’ll find a sweet and funny romance with a very light dabble at a sex scene in the end, which I found to work real well with the tone of the story in general. I’ve reviewed this story on an earlier occasion.

If you want something a little more explicit, but still with a lot left to you own imagination, you could look up my all time favourite romance “Rumors” by BadSquirrel. In this romance I found the sex scenes well integrated in the storyline and abiding quite nicely with my rule of “less detail” and repetition. You might have guessed that I’ve also reviewed this fic on an earlier occasion.

You’ll find a quit different way of mixing romance and sex in Vertigo’s “Caution: Under Construction” this is a great romance with a high number of explicit sex scenes, but I do think that this works rather well with both the storyline and characters chosen for this fic (review).

If what you really want are infinite sex scenes with a touch of plot you could look up “Unlimited sexual favours” by Cephalgia and MJ. It’s well written and a bit of fun. “Unlimited sexual favours” is the story of Wilder and Darcy, one a lesbian the other straight, long time friends, and one of them with that one secret that can’t be told to a straight best friend. The basis of the “storyline” – which is really a string of sex scenes – is a bet, one that I don’t think friends would normally make, but for Wilder and Darcy the bet seems to work wonders. I’m sorry - but I think I need to leave the rest of the “storyline” for you to read.

What I like about this fic is that even though it is erotica, the writers still presents it with enough of a romantic twist to make it interesting and with a couple of likeable characters. Two sequels to the story has been written – “More Unlimited Sexual Favours” and “The Return of Unlimited Sexual Favours”.

Fenced Fields by Dee

If you can handle a sweet and sentimental story about the healing effect of love you should look up “Fenced Fields” featuring Molly and Eunice.

Molly and Eunice grew up together, but while Eunice wanted nothing more than to live her life on the family farm, Molly was determined to leave small town life. She wanted to go to college and to be a writer. Following her dream Molly left her best friend behind never looking back. Returning 5 years later to care for her terminally ill mother, Molly finds Eunice as helpful and sweet as ever, but with a lingering sadness in her eyes.

While Molly was away, Eunice experienced love, betrayal and a rather rough outing, which has caused her to lead a life in solitude, with little hope of ever finding love or companionship. Back home, older and wiser Molly is uncertain how to go about putting the sparkle back in Eunice’s eyes, but seeing that Eunice might not be an unobtainable goal, she starts a slow insistent campaign to heal the heart of the woman she wants to spend her life loving.

The ladies are sweet, and the romance rings true with the slow and steady seduction engineered by Molly, but I’m afraid that the story could have benefited by some extra editing, but don’t let this scare you off – if you like sweet - you could do a lot worse with your reading time than spending it on “Fenced Fields”.
